Head’s Welcome

Welcome to Wood End Infant & Pre-School! I am very proud of our school and have seen it go from strength to strength in the 6 years that I have been here.

Welcome to Wood End Infant & Pre-School! I am very proud of our school and have seen it go from strength to strength in the 6 years that I have been here.

Wood End is a small and nurturing school, as our motto says; ‘Nurturing acorns into sturdy oaks’, we endeavour to nurture your children ready for the next stage in their education.

Our school is special in many ways; our Foundation Stage class ensures that children reach a Good Level of Development, which has been consistently above the National Average for the past 4 years. Through child-initiated activities and planning in the moment, we capture the interests of the children and meet individual needs.

Reading and phonics is taught through Read Write Inc., our highly skilled practitioners ensure children grasp the concept of reading and develop a love from an early age. Our phonics screening check results at the end of Year 1 have been above the National Average for the past 4 years, in 2017 we were in the top 6% of schools nationally. Each Year we are awarded with the Ruth Miskin Training Accreditation badge to acknowledge our strength in teaching children to read, write and spell with passion and fidelity.

The standards our children reach at the end of Key Stage One exceeds the National average and we are very proud of the progress all children make at Wood End.

Of course, our school is about more than attainment, we pride ourselves on the exciting opportunities children experience whilst at Wood End. All children take part in weekly Forest School sessions where they enjoy the outdoors, learn about the seasons and nature, take risks and develop teamwork and other valuable life skills. We have an allotment and chickens where children learn about where food comes from and how to grow produce. We value sports and the arts and these are important parts of our curriculum.

We have a large playing field and imaginative playground equipment to keep children active.

Being a small school every adult knows every child and we work together to support one another. A restorative approach to behaviour is key here and respectful relationships are continually developed.
We would love you to join our school and visits are warmly welcomed. Come and see what we are all about!
