What is SMSC/PSHE?
SMSC stands for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. All schools in England must show how well their pupils develop in SMSC.
Personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE) focuses on strengthening knowledge, skills and connections to keep children and young people healthy and safe, and prepare them for life and work.
The spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development of our students has always been at the heart of the education offered at Wood End Infant and Pre-School. Our approach to SMSC is embedded in the ethos of mutual respect, partnership working and collaboration; an approach that we believe is fundamental to a full and positive participation in life in modern Britain. Our monthly values and Restorative Practice approach, coupled with Jigsaw PSHE, is evident across the curriculum and in the way our children and staff speak to each other and through their behaviour and actions.

JIGSAW
- Wood End uses Jigsaw, which is a PSHE (SMSC) education programme for schoolchildren aged 3-11. They provide us with comprehensive lesson plans and teaching resources.
- Jigsaw has two main aims for all children: to build their capacity for learning, and to equip them for life.
